Ohio Third Frontier
The Ohio Department of Development (ODOD) recently issued the FY2011 Request for Proposals (RFPs) for the Ohio Third Frontier Cluster Development Programs. ODOD anticipates awarding up to $21 million in grants through FY2011 for the Cluster Development Programs: Advanced Energy, Fuel Cell, and Photovoltaic. Letters of intent to file a full proposal are due by 2:00 p.m. ET on September 10, 2010. A Bidder's Conference will be held for prospective respondents to the RFPs, at which the ODOD staff will present information on the RFPs, requirements, and the evaluation process that will be used to determine awardees. Attendance at the Bidder's Conference is encouraged, but not mandatory. The conference will be held at 10:30 a.m., August 19, 2010 at TechColumbus, 1275 Kinnear Road, Columbus, Ohio.
ARCHAngels
The ARCHAngels focuses on strengthening Northeast Ohio’s businesses involved in health care, information technologies, polymers and other advanced materials. Made possible through the sponsorship of the University of Akron Research Foundation, ARCHAngels introduces investors to new investment opportunities in Northeast Ohio with regard to technology-based organizations.
Cuyahoga Community College - Certificate Programs in Alternative Energy and Wind Turbine Technician
Cuyahoga Community College, Ohio's oldest and largest multi-campus community college, offers two certificate programs in Alternative Energy and Wind Turbine Technician. The Alternative Energy program provides an overview of the main sources of alternative energy for residential and commercial buildings, as well as information in energy conservation and auditing. The Wind Turbine Technician program provides training for individuals interested in the installation, operation and maintenance of wind turbines.
Edison Welding Institute – Advanced Energy Manufacturing
The Edison Welding Institute (EWI) recently created the Advanced Energy Manufacturing Center, allowing for enhanced research and development efforts regarding advanced energy. By exchanging information and expertise; designing projects; developing training programs; and encouraging investments in advanced energy manufacturing, sustainable manufacturing operations will create high-paying jobs within the region.
Entrepreneurs for Sustainability
Founded in 2000, Entrepreneurs for Sustainability (E4S) believes sustainability principles are key for new business opportunities and tools in order to improve the quality of life. As a business network in Northeast Ohio with over 7,000 leaders who practice principles of sustainability, E4S promotes positive change in the region by encouraging economic development and new businesses to address environmental issues.
Environment Ohio
Focused exclusively on protecting Ohio’s air, water and open spaces, Environment Ohio is a statewide, citizen-based environmental advocacy organization. Through research, speaking engagements and advocacy, Environment Ohio seeks to improve the quality of our environment at the local, state and national levels.
Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University
The Great Lakes Energy Institute at Case Western Reserve University was formed as a resource for academia, industry, government and educators in order to facilitate the transition to advanced sustainable energy. Led by researchers at the Case School of Engineering, the Institute utilizes its resources and expertise to develop strengths in advanced energy; wind energy; power informatics and control; energy conversion and storage; and solar.
Great Lakes WIND Network
The Great Lakes WIND Network (GLWN) is an international group of manufacturers, suppliers and research organizations gathered together to become a leader in the supply chain for the growing wind industry. The GLWN links original equipment manufacturers with component suppliers, generates new investments by joining with public and private partners, and supports public policy initiatives in regard to expanding the wind industry.
Green Energy Ohio
Green Energy Ohio (GEO) is dedicated to promoting environmentally and economically sustainable energy policies and practices in Ohio in: solar, wind, biomass and low impact hydropower. GEO continues to educate and inform Ohioans about sustainable energy, brings together energy manufacturers and providers, and encourages volunteer clean energy projects.
JumpStart, Inc.
A nationally recognized venture development organization, JumpStart, Inc. focuses on promoting entrepreneurship by investing in and creating partnerships with innovative, early-stage businesses in Northeast Ohio. By accelerating business growth, JumpStart improves business success in Northeast Ohio and creates a more prosperous future.
Lorain County Community College - Alternative Energy Technology Degree
As one of Ohio's top-ranked community colleges, Lorain County Community College now offers an Associate of Applied Science degree in Alternative Energy Technology. The degree program covers an overview of alternative energy sources, specializing in electronics, electronic controls, mechanical systems and more. Focused on residential-sized wind turbines, the program also includes training on utility scale turbines allowing students to become installation and maintenance professionals.
NASA Glenn Research Center
The NASA Glenn Research Center continues fulfilling NASA missions while guiding future business opportunities within the advanced energy field. Currently, the Center is in the process of evaluating numerous demonstration projects to test and advance the set-up of applications for wind turbines, fuel cells and photovoltaics.
Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC)
A premier research institution, the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) is committed to safe, healthy and affordable food and agricultural products; sustainable food and agricultural systems; strong rural and urban communities; stewardship of natural resources and the environment; and keeping Ohio positioned favorably in a global economy. The OARDC works to discover new knowledge in extending, developing and transferring technology.
Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition
Industry, academic and government leaders have come together to strengthen Ohio’s fuel cell industry and transform the region into a global leader in fuel cell technology. The Ohio Fuel Cell Coalition also advocates for federal funding for fuel cell technology, hosts events and forums to educate the region, publicly promotes the positive role of fuel cell technology, and collaborates with academic and industry organizations to support research that will accelerate fuel cell commercialization.

University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio (UCEAO)
In 2007, fifteen of Ohio’s state universities formed the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio (UCEAO) to collaborate on clean energy research and development. Together, these universities conduct research and education for a sustainable energy future for Northeast Ohio and the Nation.

Released January 25, 2010, the Apollo Report pinpoints ways Ohio can use its existing job creation and retraining programs to better foster jobs in environment-promoting areas. A major need is having workers whose skills match the needs of clean energy employers and industries.
Council on Competitiveness Energy Roadmap
The Council on Competitiveness Energy Roadmap is designed to keep jobs and industries for renewable energy here in the United States, according to the council's Energy Action Plan. The Council focuses on enhancing the environment and accelerating economic development, job creation and global competitiveness.
Pew Report on Cleantech in Ohio
The Pew Report, The Clean Energy Economy, indicates that Ohio is one of twelve states that have large and growing clean energy economies. Ohio’s clean energy economy is expanding at a moderate but steady rate, has a strong foundation on which to build, and the number of jobs in Ohio’s clean energy economy surpassed the national average.
